The Verri Industries Douglas United Dragons have made it seven wins in a row with a convincing 4-0 victory over Stratford at Cassowary Park on Sunday evening.

In front of a large, vocal crowd the Dragons made light work of their opponents and rarely looked troubled on their way to victory. The result keeps the Dragons in second place on the ladder with a trip to third placed Leichardt coming up this weekend.

The Dragons were a little slow out of the blocks on Sunday but soon found their rhythm having plenty of joy down the right flank where Ollie Mofatt and Matt Hill were combining well.

It was Matt Hill who played the final pass for the Dragons' opening goal on twelve minutes. Matt Smith got free down the left hand side and crossed to the far post where Hill was waiting to head it back into the danger area where Ian Marsh was on hand to nod the ball home.



Minutes later Marsh turned provider when, from his corner kick, captain Nick Tither rose highest to head the ball past the Stratford keeper who had come to collect and missed the ball. It was a goal a long time coming for Tither who had been frustrated in previous weeks by missing a few headed chances.

It was all one way traffic by this stage and the Dragons were in an unrelenting mood. More good work down the left from Smith allowed Ciaran Lemon time and space in the box and as he took the ball round a defender he was fouled leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.

Lemon dusted himself off and dispatched the ball into the back of the net with power and purpose.

The second half followed in a similar fashion to the first, Stratford hassled the Dragons initially by looking to press when Douglas were in possession. This did not last long however, the Dragons were too assured in possession and the fight went out of the Stratford side.



For all their dominance in terms of possession the Dragons did not create a huge number of clear cut chances. The Dragons did add a fourth though when a right wing cross was headed back across the face of goal where Nick Houghton was on hand to tuck the ball home with the simplest of finishes.

The Paddy’s Bar Man of the Match went to Nick Tither who had an influential game in the middle of the park and capped the performance with a goal. There were a number of standout performances however with Valentine Akem in particular putting in a resolute performance at centre half.

Next up for the Dragons is a tricky away trip to Leichardt. With the league very much up for grabs the Dragons know three points is a must.
