52 join the Holden Scramble

Mossman Golf Club hosted a qualifying round of the Holden Scramble on Saturday, in lovely playing conditions. Earlier in the week Tuesday’s field of over 50 players competed in a Stableford event.

Div I  was won by Wayne Soxsmith with 38 points, with runner-up Jock O’Kane with 36 points.  Div II was won by Greg Walker with 42 points, with runner-up Michael Tagg with 40 points.

Nearest the pins were Ian Johnson on 6, Lloyd Redpath on 8, Terry Plunkett on 10, R. Aston  on 13 and Peter Lewis on 17.

The winner of Wednesday’s nine hole event was Rod Donovan with 21 points on a count-back to Robert Drew. Nearest the pins were Jack Boyd on 6 and Bob Hoskins on 8.

Thursday’s Ladies event was won by Gayle Healey with 37 points, in second place was Jacqui Mitchell with 35 points. Nearest the pins were Gayle on 6 and Kerri-Lynn Williams on 8 and 13.

The new special Friday Frolic (9 holes golf, shared motorised buggy and 6 pack in ice to share for $30 per player) was enjoyed by plenty of social players.  For players with handicaps, the competition was won by Peter Gray with 22 points.

Saturday’s Holden Scramble of 52 players competed and the victorious four will play in the Regional Event at Sea Temple Golf Club on 14 October.

Winners – Des Graham, Allan Harper, Rick Weimar and Keith Gard with nett 56 7/8.
Runners up -  T. Ryan, T. Reid, R. Lade and D. Lierich.
Nearest the Pins – George Page on 8, and Geoff Goodwin on 13.

For other players, the Stableford Medley saw Barry Brims win with 41 points on a count-back to P. Wyatt and Lloyd Redpath. Nearest the pins were Russ Watkins on 6, Mauri Meth on 8 & 10, K. Willmett on 13 and Barry on 17.

Sunday’s Stableford Medley was won by T. Hales with 37 points one shot clear of John Cameron.
