Who will you vote for?

Local Government Elections are less than two weeks away, and candidates for Division 10 and the Mayoral position are jostling for your support.

It appears Julia Leu's strongest opposition in our division will come from Pete Smith who is being backed by Mayoral candidate, Bob Manning.

But has former Douglas Shire CEO, Terry Melchert, or dark horse Bob Shaw done enough to earn your vote on 28 April?

The Mayoral race sees incumbent Val Schier attempting to reclaim the office while Bob Manning, Ian Thomas, and deputy mayor Margaret Cochrane are striving to end her reign.

Cr Schier's win in the last Cairns Regional Council election was attributed to the backing of the Douglas region, but has that support waned?

With the LNP's victory in the recent State Government election, the issue of deamalgamation has again reared its head making this Local Government Election a potential history maker.

Will the victors unite or divide the region?

Meanwhile, pre-election polling has opened for residents who need to cast their vote prior to 28 April. Voting can be done at the Mossman Shire Hall from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (excluding ANZAC Day).
