Sun brings out the best in golfers

Mossman Golf course is now back to a full course, with plenty of sunshine and happiness.


The Port Douglas Weddings Monthly Medal held on 24 March, was taken out by Art Howard on nett 71, on a count-back to Greg Walker.  Gross winners were Ralf Middel (A Grade), Kym Rowley (B Grade) and David Budge (C Grade).

Nett winners were Brett Jurie (A Grade), Robert Young (B Grade) and Ian McDowell (C Grade), while nearest the pins went to Dave Nesbitt on 8, Mal Phillips on 13 and Brett Jurie on 17.

The Ladies competed in the Port Douglas and District Combined Clubs Monthly Medal which was won by Carly Edwards on a count-back to Trish Landy. Trish also won the putting competition and the nearest the pin prize.

With two Tuesday competitions missed in March due to wet conditions, players enjoyed a sunny day for their Par event played on the Composite Course. The winner was John Cameron on +2 and runner up Jock O’Kane.  Nearest the pins John Cameron on 8 and Simon Nelson on 13.

Wednesday’s nine hole event saw Brett Jurie take the honours from Ian Steley. Nearest the pin on 8 was won by Greg Walker.

Thursday’s Ladies Stableford event was won by Trish Landy on 36 points, second place went to Treveen Page on 35, and third was Ellen Clark on 31.  Nearest the pins were Trish Landy on 8 and Treveen Page on 13.

The Saturday Men's Stableford event held on 31 March was won by Ralf Middel with 37 points on a count-back to David Budge. Third was John Norris on 36 on a count-back to Bruce Cheesman. Nearest the pins went to S Gard on 8, David Budge on 13 and Broz Jurie on 17.

The Ladies enjoyed the sunshine on Saturday with Kim Edwards taking the honours from Trish Landy, while Katie Brims snuck into third on a count-back to Kiara Lomas. Nearest the pins were Jenny Rowell on 8 and Glenda Christensen on 13.

Sunday was another beautiful day with Shona Barbour taking the stableford event with 40 points, second was Greg Walker on 37 points on a count-back to John Cameron. Nearest the pins were Jeff Bochow on 8 and John Cameron on 13.

The course is open every day over Easter, and visitors are more than welcome.

The Club invites Ladies (of any age) to come along and learn to play Golf. The next clinic will be held on 16 April, so anyone can book on 4098 2089.
