The 2012 Port Douglas Magazine Business Awards have been launched in conjunction with the release of the latest Port Douglas Magazine, and already votes are flowing in as consumers have their say about their favourite local businesses.

Over 5000 votes were received for last year's awards which recognise businesses through the experiences of those that matter - the customer.

Some of the big winners in 2011 included the ever-popular Wildlife Habitat (Best Tourist Attraction), Mantra Aqueous (Best Hotel/Resort), and Salsa Bar & Grill (Best Restaurant).

There are 27 consumer driven categories in 2012 with retail, health and beauty, weddings and events, hospitality, accommodation, tourism, and entertainment industries all represented.

"These awards are becoming the yard stick for local businesses as the winners are decided wholly on the perspective of the consumer," said Port Douglas Magazine editor, Roy Weavers.

"Businesses do not need to nominate themselves in a particular category as the customer will do that for you, as long as you've delivered the goods in terms of the quality of the product and the level of service they've received."

Votes can be cast via the Port Douglas Magazine, voting slips (available from The Newsport office), and online. Winners will be announced at a gala evening in October.
