Local crew big winners
‘Royal Bodiez’ of Bodies in Motion Dance School in Mossman have been crowned Hip Hop Crew winners at Cairns biggest dance battle, 'The Block Party' held on Sunday.
A 2000 strong audience gathered at The Pier Car Park to watch over 100 dancers battle it out on the streets. The event saw both girls and boys of all ages showing off their talents in solo, duo and crew battles.
Bodies in Motion’s principal Saskia Turner put together two crews to compete at the event.
“Our junior crew, 'Lil’ Bodiez' consists of boys and girls aged 7 to 13 and our senior crew, 'Royal Bodiez' is an all female group with girls aged 14 to 21,” Miss Turner said.

“Although we only started rehearsals six weeks prior to the event, they performed like professionals.
“The amount of great feedback we received was amazing. Cairns had no idea how much talent we have hidden up here in Mossman.”
The Block Party promotes a positive environment, where all dancers are encouraged to support and respect one another by shaking hands after battling.
“It was a great opportunity for the kids to perform to such a large and responsive crowd” said Miss Turner.
“I was overwhelmed with how many supporters travelled down to Cairns to cheer us on. All the kids were so pumped after the event, they can’t wait until the next one.”
