Heroes and villains

The basketball semi's are in full swing and it was a case of deja-vu for the top seeded NZ Breakers. The Townsville Crocs flew over the ditch and upset them and now hold the trump cards with the series heading back to FNQ.

Perth did the same to them last year but they managed to fight back in Perth thanks to a superstar named Kirk Penney (38 points that game).

This season they are Penni-less and I'm tipping the reigning champs to exit this thing in straight sets. Well done Townsville coach Paul Woolpert and his troops and let's see how deep they can go into this post season.

In the other series Perth made quite light work of the Gold Coast and they now look the premiership favourites. If Townsville take out the Breakers it's hard to see any club flying over west and getting a win. The money is now firmly on the Wildcats.

The AFL was exciting in Round 1 with numerous cliffhangers - none better than the Essendon win with a missed North Melbourne kick at goal after the siren.

North Melbourne ruckman Hamish Mcintosh found himself in that situation we all dream about in the backyard as kids. Only as kids the result is always a goal, the crowd goes wild, and the imagination runs wild with your teammates putting you on their shoulders. For just those few minutes you are the alpha-dog!

The other side of the coin is less fun as Mcintosh's kick sprayed right. Sometimes there's only a few inches between hero and villain.

Dustin Fletcher at aged 37 seemed to turn the games and one must wonder how long he can keep this up? Coach Hird will have him for another 20 years!
