Grand final replay in junior netball

Douglas Juniors started the second round last Tuesday at Port Courts, and on Court 1 the Pythons took on the Net Set Go girls.

This is a training/play session for the girls with the older girls being role models for the learner netballers.  The Pythons in their flash new purple skirts looked fantastic and thanks go to coach Meg and mum Virginia Goodall for making up the skirts.

Tayhla Cadiente put in some great plays and Fauve Salleras was excellent in defence. The Net Set Go team played some brilliant netball showing the skills they have learned over the 10 week course.

Edie Thurtell and Anna Padovan were exceptional on the court, and the game ended with a final score of 1-1.

The Gladiators took on the Wildcats on Court 2 and for the Gladiators Carla Young put in an excellent game as did Keely Poole who is ever-improving and showing great skills on the court.

The Wildcatz took a little while to gel as a team this week but improved greatly in the second half. Kate Padovan lead well in attack and MacKenzie Booth put in a top defensive game.

Final score Gladiators 6 def. Wildcatz 2.

The Croc Diamonds played the Miallo Allstars and the Diamonds applied pressure from the start, jumping out to an early lead. Miallo came back strongly but the Diamonds' defence was up to the task denying Miallo any shots at goal.

With some positional changes Miallo stepped up and Lana Baxter was able to take some shots at goal, scoring in the third quarter. Sharp-shooting sisters Bonnie and Kyah Francis sealed the match.

The score didn't reflect the never say die attitude of Miallo with Diamonds 23 defeating Miallo 1.

Poison Apples played the Red Hot Peppers. The Apples, being the older team, played very good netball with their experience showing at every move.

Denby Woods was an excellent defence in Keeper with some very accurate passing and Lauren Sciacca played well shooting a great goal from distance.

The Peppers are gaining momentum as a team. Georgia McCarthy covered the court well and Mia Lowenstein-Jones, up from 10s defended very well around the goal circle, well done!

Final score Apples 12 def. Peppers 1.

The 14-16 comp on Court 1 was a replay of last year's Grand Final. Dynamite played a very nice fluid game with some great passing between Yasmin Stievano, Bronte Lowenstein-Jones and Brydie Tregea who also kept up with her opponent throughout the game.

For Vipers Saisha Schonenberger defended really well as did Jess Eagle-Rowe. The Dynamites came out the victors 10-6, well done girls!.

The Sapphires played the 12/under representative team and it was the Sapphires who controlled the game from the first quarter with great passing between Maddy Weaver, Daisy Hawkes and Holly Brown around the goal circle.

The Reps found their feet in the second and third quarters showing some great teamwork. Piper Adams, in great form, worked the circle and Aleesha Viola read the play well, defending strongly.

Final score Sapphires 26 def. Reps 7.

The Breakers played the Young Fusion team and for the Breakers Georgia Duncan was excellent in defence and Tyler Mous put in a very strong game against the talented Hazuki Kirby. Tully Case is showing great improvement as a second year player.

The Fusion girls passed the ball well with very good timing. Elle Kadwell displayed efficient space awareness and positioned herself well to take the passes.

Final score Fusion 22 def. Breakers 2.

Great job Junior Umpires: Sascha Lowenstein-Jones, Cartier Bennett, Keely Harold, Tiah McLean, Maddy Weaver, Holly Brown, Eleisha Mealing, Marley Cairns, Tayler Durie, Saisha Schonenberger, Rachael Ramsay and Vanessa Woods.
