Future in our hands
20 days after the Melbourne Business School presented its findings to the town, the full 193 page report has been released to the public.
But the question remains, who will unite the town to reverse the alarming downward economic trend identified in the report?
The Newsport has been promoting the MBS' 'Revitalise Port Douglas' project heavily over the past few months, and will continue to do so by publishing the full report via a home page link for all to see.
This project, if given the respect it deserves, gives us a chance to turn the corner. The alternative is the continued loss of local businesses and, well, more of the same.

Unless a new committee is appointed to drive the implementation of the recommendations, the responsibility falls largely on our current leaders including (but not limited to) members of Council, Chamber of Commerce, and Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree.
Whether they are committed to delivering the recommendations is another question. The public, at least those who agree with the findings, have the task of ensuring the report is not forgotten and action is taken simply by demanding it.
As always we would love to hear your thoughts about the findings of the report, what you believe is the path to take, and who is capable of leading the way.
