Junior AFL Crocs Reports

Here are last weekends match reports from the Junior Crocs

UNDER 16
Unfortunately the game was cancelled last Friday night as the oval at Trinity Beach was deemed an unsafe playing surface.

UNDER 14
With a 'never say die' attitude the U14's were rewarded with a win in a  low scoring, hard fought game of footy against Cairns Norths.  The game was only won in last quarter by being able to outrun the opposition to be first to the ball showing that a bit of hard work and determination will make all the difference.

Tom Goodall once again stamped his authority on the game with a very strong performance around the ground which earned him a well deserved man of the match award from the umpires.

Jarrah Wren, Capt and ruckman didn't stop running the whole game being solid  in attack and defence taking strong overhead marks and running the ball out of trouble and forward on numerous occasions.

Finn Cameron and Tully Cartwright combined well together from the centre and half  forward both taking many marks and working off one another creating   some nice open running play displaying good foot and hand skills.

Across the half back line in the last quarter Oliver Ellison, Jack Samson and Hugo Walker finished off big games by being unstoppable in defence.

They didn't allow anything past them and took the ball back into attack at all times with Jack bagging himself a nice goal.

Jye West  reminded everyone of his ability to win the hard ball and was very  effective when playing on the ball.

Brent Davidson was illusive on the wing and continues to gain confidence each week.

Brady Stewart  had a busy day and showed courage knocking a much bigger opponent off  the ball allowing a clean pickup by a team mate with the end result  being the goal that put them in front on the score board securing the win.

Ben Shrimpton gets better every week and is playing some skillful hard running football playing up the wing.

Also a mention  to the U12 players who helped us out, Charlie, Hugo, Brayden and Ben who all made a huge contribution to the game.

Score 4/11/35 to 2/7/19.

Awards :  Jack Samson, Oliver Ellison and Jye West.

Goal Scorers  Tully, Jarrah, Jack and Charlie

UNDER 12
vs Cairns North – April 22
After two weeks of school holidays the under 12s looked fresh as they took command of the match early in the first quarter.

Brayden Wall proved very successful in the ruck, regularly getting the ball out of the centre and allowing the ball to move forward, placing immediate pressure on Cairns North.

With the speed of Daniel Davidson, marking the ability of Hugo Corrie and tenacity of Ryan Bourguignon ever present, the Crocs went to the half time break with a strong lead.

A great team effort ensued in the second half as the under 12s completed four solid quarters of football.

Special mentions go to Billy Thomson for showing considerable determination for returning to the field in the final quarter after sustaining an injury earlier in the game and Tuoc Nguyen for a wonderful contribution in his first ever game of AFL.

The Port Douglas Crocs proved too strong, running away with a 6 goal victory.

UNDER 10
The team played a hard game last Sunday against Cairns Saints at Crathern Park.

The Saints were short a few players so our Junior Crocs assisted and played well for both sides.  The team fought hard to get the ball off the ground to the forwards.

Sam Corrie scored our four goals.

Awards were given to Ethan Bakker, Slade Roberts and Medal to Sam Corrie.

UNDER 8
Short player numbers could not curb the mighty Port Douglas Crocs under 8's enthusiasm on Sunday morning in ideal playing conditions at Crathern Park.

Just like their fathers in their Hay day - Zippy forwards Ethan"Rioli" Scott, Kalan "Modra" Poole and Sam"Roach" Wall set the tone early with some exciting forward pressure.

Goal kicking practice is in order for game day captain Colby"Buckley" Taylor who lead the team brilliantly.

The ever reliable Daniel "Fletcher" Harrington prevented many Bulldog attacks down the back and was well supported by the much improved players Hayden" Black" Caswell and the best name in football Angus" Buddy" Van Rooyan who excited the crowd with many telling long kicks.

Special mention to the Bulldogs players who assisted with play numbers during the game, very much appreciated.

Coach's awards went to Colby, Angus and Sam.
