Take the jump into local tourism

Have you got what it takes to lead tourism to the next level in the Douglas region? Or do you know someone who you think can help create a positive influence on the local tourism industry?

If so, the time is now to nominate for positions on the board of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree in the upcoming elections.

TPDD chairman, Gordon Wellham, said with around 80 per cent of Port Douglas residents employed in the tourism industry, now was the chance for the 160 members to turn their ideas into action.

“Tourism is so important to this region,” he said.

“We need people with solid experience and good business skills who are not afraid to ask questions.

“The team we currently have is doing a great job now, we need some more good minds to help our region move forward.

“Times are still tough, we don’t know what is around the corner, so we need to be proactive in these times of declining budgets.”

All financial TPDD members are eligible to nominate and/or vote for the positions of general director and Cape Tribulation zone director before 5pm, Friday, September 23, 2011.

The nomination form can be seen here.
And criteria for the position can be seen here.

Editor's Comments: Having had some experience working with Boards it's clear that those Boards who embrace new ideas, new ways of doing things, and have in place a succession plan are the most effective.

It'd be great to see a number of people nominating for these TPDD positions to ensure the best candidates lead our tourism industry into the future.
