Road works cause holiday delays

Delays to traffic on the Captain Cook Highway at Ellis Beach look likely to continue throughout the school holidays until next month, according to the State Government.

Currently, one lane is open to traffic just south of the Ellis Beach 60km/hour zone, as slope stabilisation works are carried out on the roadside above the highway where damage was sustained during recent wet weather.

Works will be carried out Monday to Saturday, 6am to 6pm, until October (weather permitting), with the road reduced to one lane with traffic controllers and traffic signals where required.

Motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes through the construction site during working hours.

The reconstruction work is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative.

Editor's Comments: So now you know make sure you plan to leave just that little bit earlier. We've seen enough accidents lately. While we're on the topic, we'll be expecting to hear an outcome of the Port Douglas/Captain Cook Highway intersection very soon.
