Neighbours trade Ramsey for Macrossan
Port Douglas will be showcased to 10 million worldwide viewers of the hit Aussie TV soapie, Neighbours, when the show uses the town within its storyline.
The cast and crew of the long-running series will be in Port Douglas from next week, and there is plenty of hype surrounding the guest appearance of former Home and Away star, Lincoln Lewis, the son of Brisbane Bronco legend, Wally Lewis.
Lewis Jnr, who starred recently in the Underbelly:Razor mini-series, will play Port Douglas marine biologist, Dominic Emmerson, who has a holiday fling with Kate Ramsay, played by Ashleigh Brewer.
The storyline sees Kate on a mission to escape the drama of Erinsborough, the episodes originally destined to be filmed in the UK, and later Broome, but reportedly relocated to Port Douglas due to costs.
It is believed scenes will be shot in Macrossan Street and at the Meridien Marina over five days.
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree chief executive, Doug Ryan, said the airing of the Port Douglas-based episodes would provide a free plug for tourism in the Douglas region.
“This is fantastic for the region, as there are 10 million viewers of Neighbours worldwide,” he said.
“The show is massive in the UK, and the UK is also our biggest international tourism market.
“So it’s a great plug for the area, as the characters will actually refer to the town as Port Douglas.”
Mr Ryan said there would be a competition in the UK for viewers to win a Port Douglas holiday, the lucky winners to take their tropical sojourn to coincide with the Australian airing of the episodes next year.
