Cairns Regional Council has released its draft community plan titled 'Imagine tomorrow' and has received a mixed response to date from residents.

According to Council, the document is a result of 14 months of community consultation and outlines a vision for the next 20 years in the Cairns region. It also identifies some of the issues that require attention.

In her message Council CEO, Lyn Russell, said some of the key issues that have emerged include:

• Improving our public transport
• Diversifying our economy
• Protecting our environment and heritage
• Ensuring sustainable tropical living

Comments posted by residents on the Council's 'Your Say' website vary from the positive "I am pleased with most of this document," to more scathing reviews; "I expected to see more specifics and less pleasant waffle in this "final" document. I think that nothing has been achieved with this exercise." And this, "Your plan for the future is typical council mumbo jumbo. It does not tell the people what you are actually going to do."
