Grand finalists decided in junior netball
Douglas Junior Netball held its second round of finals last night at Port Courts.
10 Under
The 10/Under took to the court and the in form Diamonds played the Saints. Little Dominique Lee worked well with Jaime Thurtell showing some fantastic passing for the Diamonds.
Thanks to Brodie Francis, younger brother of Bonnie and Kyah, for playing with the team to make up the numbers. Charlotte Dowling and Kalani Revel combined well around the circle giving their team lots of opportunities at goal.
The Saints played a strong defensive game. Kiara-Mae Gaddes and Jordan Scott put in great games against the strong opposition, and the whole team showed a combined team effort.
Final score Diamonds 5 def. Saints nil.
The Tigers played the Gladiators in a tight contest. The Tigers were undermanned so a big thanks goes to Savaanah Scott, Shannon Lincoln and Robyn Bruenig for making up the numbers from 12/Under.
With the help of the older girls the Tigers put in a strong game and kept the pressure on the Gladiators. Libby and Logan Buzza were standout performers.
The Gladiators were challenged by the Tigers but played well and the team lifted. Little Keeley Poole put in some great intercepts against much taller opposition and Sophie Watson was great for four quarters. Eva Mellows read the play well and was always in position for the intercepts.
Final Score Tigers 4 def. Gladiators 2.
Thanks to Umpires Karla Logan, Meg Goodall, Karlie Brady and Natalie Littler.
12 Under
The 12/Under second final on Court 1 had the Allstars playing the Magic. The Allstars, after a loss to Miallo last week, came out firing.
The girls played well as a team with some great defence by Poppy Lawrence and Isabella Cattanach, Liana Pellegrinet was brilliant in attack and Eliza Markham and Rachael Goodman finished the team's effort off well for goal.
The Magic team played a competitive game as Samaria Denman was at her best in defence creating many intercepts and turning the ball over for her team.
Sarah Rossetto was excellent and Breeanna Fordham was ever reliable while Casilda Creek has a natural talent for taking some great intercepts.
Final score Allstars 16 def. Magic 6.
The Allstars will play in the Grand Final and the Magic are now eliminated.
The Sparks played the Panthers in their second final in division B. The Sparks, with the unstoppable Tiah McLean in centre, came out to play even though they were undermanned.
Thanks to Amelia Lee, Kalani Revel and Kyah Francis for making up the numbers from 10/Under.
Cartier Bennett was great in defence and Sascha Lowenstein-Jones shot well for goal. The Panthers with Georgia Kelly, Savaanah Scott and Robyn Bruenig combined well through the centre third creating many opportunities to drive the ball to their goals with scores 3 goals to 2 by half time.
Tully Case used her height well in defence and Bonnie Francis played a strong and determined game.
Final score Sparks 6 def. Panthers 4.
The Sparks now sit at 5 points to the Panthers 3. They play in the Division B Grand Final next week on Court 2. Thanks to umpires Marta Smith, Coral Deen, Sharon Beechey and Chrissy Sophocleous.
14 Under
The 14/Under second final was played between the Violet Vipers and the Judamalies in a fantastic game of netball of which both teams should be proud.
The Vipers were 8 goals to 4 by half time. Great court work by Tayler Durie and strong direction by Jess Eagle-Rowe had the team purring. Jeorgia Westgate lead well in the circle and finished well for goal and Samaria Denman, up from 12s, was again excellent in defence.
Samaria is playing rep standard netball week in week out so well done to her.
The Judamalies at half time regrouped and showed some fantastic determination in the next quarter shooting 4 goals to nil. Holly Brown was brilliant in the goal circle shooting a couple of goals from the edge, while Dakota Bowen was great in the last line of defence stopping a lot of opportunities from the Vipers.
Kloee Revel, Brittany Bowen and Frankie Webster all put in great games, unfortunately there has to be a winner and Vipers managed to get up by 2 goals in the last quarter.
Final score Vipers 11 def. Judamalies 9.
Thanks to umpires Marta Smith and Lyn Kinraide. We hope to see these girls back again next year.
