Free building contractors seminar

Building Industry Minister Simon Finn has announced a free seminar for building contractors about common defects in passive fire protection systems.

Mr Finn urged licensees to attend the Building Services Authority seminar at the Seville Mercy Conference Centre in Earlville this Wednesday, September 21.

“Defective fire separation can have tragic consequences and continues to be one of the most concerning items of defective work reported to BSA,” Mr Finn said.

“As a result, responsible builders, contractors, designers and certifiers can face expensive repair costs, potential legal action and loss of licence.

“In this presentation, industry experts look at examples of common defects and the extensive repair methods required for rectification.”

Member for Cairns Desley Boyle said BSA seminars had proven popular with local businesses.

“This is an important opportunity for locals to come along and improve their knowledge and building skills in this essential area,” Ms Boyle said.

Contractors will also gain information about passive fire protection products, intumescent coatings and the correct way to design and build tilt slab buildings.

The seminar at 35 Bauhinia Avenue runs from 4.30pm-5.30pm.

Licensees wanting to attend can register by phoning the BSA on 1300 272 272 or by emailing bsaseminars@bsa.qld.gov.au
