Living Costs are spiralling for most families in FNQ and the question remains; What can we do and how to help vulnerable people in our community?

LETS – your Community Currency, and Transition FNQ are hosting a series of film nights over four months titled The Powerdown Show which aims to address the reduction of living costs.

Community members from all of FNQ will be coming together to discuss how their region can use rising living costs as the catalyst to relocalise and create robust and resilient communities.

Local Energy Trading Company (LETS) and Transition FNQ see global challenges as opportunities that need to be embraced to create healthier and happier places for us to live.

LETS and TFNQ are actively working with local businesses and government representatives to define roles and collaboratively create strategies to put in place the opportunities that will come from what they describe as "a changing economy".

"The purpose of the film and forum evenings is a hands on approach to create practical pathways and outline the opportunities individuals and businesses have open to them to take advantage of Peak Oil and monetary inflation," Belinda Moore, LETS Co-ordinator  said.

"The Transition Project aims to recreate vibrant communities through FNQ and build capacity in the areas of food, water, trade, transportation, power, practical skills and local governance.

"We want concerned community members from all over FNQ to attend these events.  Become empowered as a dynamic group to discuss what we each can do, and then take the information back to your own communities as catalysts for positive change."

The first film and forum night in the series will be held on Saturday night at the Malanda CWA on Elizabeth Street. Doors open at 6pm.
