Discovery Centre keeps discovering

Daintree Discovery Centre had a busy week last week with a number of dignitaries visiting the multi award-winning tourism destination.

Not only did State Tourism Minister, Jan Jarratt, visit to announce the recent awarding of $30,000 in government grants towards an expansion of tours and audio services, 30 Cambodian ministers and dignitaries also toured the complex to glean knowledge on developing a similar tourism model for Cambodia.

Minister Jarratt said the $30,499.50 Federal Government TQUAL grant would also be used to add a portable audio guide in Mandarin to complement the current audio guides offered in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.

An expanded Kuku Yalanji tour, in consultation with the Aboriginal tribe’s elders, would also be launched, outlining the use of plants in herbal medicine and life in the world’s oldest rainforest, as would an interactive children’s cassowary conservation audio tour.

Minister Jarratt said Daintree Discovery Centre was one of just 117 successful grant recipients in Australia to share in the $8 million pool of funding for 2011, with the centre’s pioneering owners to use the grant to tailor its operations to specific markets.
