Dads day raises thousands
Hundreds of dads and their families turned out to Rex Smeal Park on Sunday to celebrate Fathers Day with some classic family fun.
The day not only brought families together, it also helped raise more than $6500 (and counting) as part of Port Douglas Kindergarten's largest annual fundraiser.
Erica Whillas from the Kindergarten told The Newsport she was overwhelmed with the community response.

"It was a wonderful day and the most important thing I want to say is to thank the whole community for getting involved, particularly the mum's on the committee who have spent months putting this together," she said.
"Also the businesses who donated goods for the day to make it happen as well as prizes for the raffle and the races."

Egg-and-spoon races, sack races, tug of war, face painting, water slides, and music by local artists Kim Hurley, Dale Priem, and Fashion Tips For Tractors kept the crowds entertained throughout the day. The fire brigade even turned up with their hoses to cool the kids down.
"When we started the kindy nine years ago we said 'let's do something for the dads', we want it to be the old-fashioned fun," Ms Whillas said.
