Standout performers in gymnastics comp

The Mossman & District Gymnastics Club’s team of eight elite competition gymnasts participated in a major two-day event last weekend at the Mareeba Gymnastics Club’s annual Levels Test and Invitational comp.

Over 200 girls and boys from eight clubs participated in the event, proving that gymnastics is a major player in the sporting arena of our region.

Getting picked for a competition team is not easy. Gymnasts need to show proficiency on all pieces of apparatus and exhibit consistency and improvement throughout the year.

A high standard was displayed from all the clubs involved, however Mossman did not disappoint with all our gymnasts performing exceptionally well.

Joshua Bellero proudly represented the boys. His was a knockout performance placing third overall out of 13 boys. Proving he has exceptional skills he had a massive win bringing home a medal for first place on Rings.

Parallel Bars were not far off, with an award for third place followed by fourth on Floor and fifth on High Bar.

Tali Hoye and Jorja Harvey, our youngest gymnasts, came seventh and eighth respectively from the WAG Level 2 group. Tali showed exceptional skill placing fourth on Beam and sixth on Bars. Jorja also shone on Bars, placing fifth.

From WAG Level 3 Under 8s Olivia Dollard ranked eighth overall, excelling on Beam in fourth place. Shayla Frizelle ranked tenth overall. Beam and Floor were her forte, winning sixth place for both.

From WAG Level 3 overs, Paulina Bernhardi performed her usual best placing seventh overall out of 31 girls with a stand out performance on Beam in second place and fifth on Floor.

Taylor O’Connor worked hard against the tough competition placing 26th overall, with Floor being her strong point, followed closely by newcomer Jacinta Frizelle in 31st place, whose strength was on Beam.

Young Bridget Osterman-Rowan and Hayley Gwynne, who have both moved up the ranks in the Mossman Club over the years, had their first opportunity to judge at the competition with Bridget also taking on the role of support coach.

Some of these gymnasts will now be preparing for another big competition in Townsville in November.

New enrolments are happily accepted any time. For further information please call the club on 0417 702 534, e-mail info@mossmangymnastics.com or visit the website.
