Port Douglas Police welcomed a new member to their ranks yesterday.

Senior Constable Stephen James comes from the one-man McKinlay station, near Mount Isa, in north western Queensland.

The town of McKinlay has a population of approximately 30 people, the main industries being beef production and mining.

Port Douglas Police Officer-in-Charge, Sergeant Damian Meadows, said the 40-year-old former London policeman was fast-tracked through the Queensland Police Service’s Pace Program and posted to Hughenden before taking the reins at McKinlay.

Sergeant Meadows said he welcomed Senior Constable James, his wife and three young children to the Douglas region.
