Muddies cook up a win
Following on from their strong position of week one, the C Grade Muddies wrapped up their first win of the season on Sunday at home.
With club personnel working overtime to try and prepare the pitch after the unseasonal weather of last week, the Muddies had extra motivation knowing that most other fixtures were already classed wash out draws.
The result was a slightly slower wicket, still with a little variety, but otherwise dry and hardening as the day progressed.
Openers, Ryan and Miglioranza, bowled with discipline for long spells to return 2/37 off 16 overs (Ryan) and then with two overs to wrap up the United innings Miglioranza finished with the last wicket (3/25 off 14 overs).
It was the excellent line and length of Aryan Singh who stole the show, taking a wicket in his first over, two in his fourth over and a wicket maiden in his eighth to finish with 4/18 off his 10 over spell.
Chandra again tied the batsmen down with 1/26 off 8 overs, and Sheldon Walz was unlucky to not have some hard chances taken finishing with 0/19 off 8.
The fielding was very good, as Troy Hilditch showed what an asset he is diving and chasing hard with excellent return throws that put batsmen under pressure.
Goodall’s keeping indicated his worth when at his best and Ryan wrapped up an all round strong performance taking two very sharp chances.
Some of the toughest chances were not taken, but the energy and team support remained high throughout the morning and was indicative of what the team must uphold for the rest of the season.
United was all out 130, 44 runs short, allowing 30 minutes for Muddies to trial new openers Darlington (13 with a whirlwind of attempted shots) and Coombe (following on from his improved first innings with 23), leaving Muddies 3/47.
This week it is Barren River at Crathern Park, Trinity Beach, starting 8.30am. Players to meet at 7am at Craiglie.
