Junior basketball revival in Mossman
Last year’s amazing success of the Cairns Taipans in the National Basketball League looks to have inspired local kids to make a return to the game.
The Taipans went all the way to the grand final series last year, and as a result, junior basketball looks set to make a big comeback in Mossman following a lack of player numbers in recent years.
Last Wednesday, around 50 kids under 13 years of age showed up at Mossman Indoor Sports Stadium to sign on for the upcoming junior competition to be held over the upcoming summer months.
Competition organiser, Steve Hull, said the turnout was an encouraging sign for the future of the sport in Mossman, which had showed a recent decline.
“It’s a great sign for the future,” he said.
Mr Hull said six coaches had also committed to the competition and was hoping to see a further increase in player numbers over the course of the season.
And with a round one NBL win already on the board for the Cairns Taipans, let’s hope Joe Blake and all the players can continue to inspire the kids to keep them involved in the sport.
