by Sue Sorensen

The Junior Cricket Douglas Muddies Under 12 team played a tough first match of the season at Tolga on Saturday.

The Muddies team, consisting of quite a few new younger players, put in a great effort against Atherton Boars but took quite a loss against the more experienced Tableland team.

Captain, Keel Sorensen, won the toss and elected his team to bowl and field first. Wicketkeepers for the game were Bryce Fabiani and Luke Twomey who did a great job for the start of the season.

Wicket takers for the Muddies were Keel Sorensen (1/16) together with first time players Rueben Allison (1/17), Raine Sorensen (1/21) and Ryan Doble (1/22) as well as Daniel Davidson (1/30 off 4 overs).

Keel had a great day in the field taking two catches as well as a run out with Nathan Deuble effecting another run out bring the opposition score to 7 for 175 at 27 overs.

Daniel Davidson and Keel Sorensen opened the batting with Daniel retiring on 13 and Keel on 22 also not out. Nathan and Rueben also retired on 4 each and Bryce Fabiani and Luke Twomey on 2 apiece.

Ashton Davenport, who also played his first game for the team, put in a great effort and scored his first run of the season before retiring after facing his share of fair balls.

The Junior Muddies score came to 3/77 at 27 overs.

Next week’s match will be played at the Mossman High School oval on Saturday morning.
