Drewy robbed of reward

After hearing people sing the praises of Meatloaf at the AFL Grand Final I want to thank him for a line from one of his songs. At this stage of the NBL season it is quite relevant to the Cairns Taipans, “Two out of three ain't bad.”

Last weekend the Snakes split their road double, going down to the Crocs in Brownsville, and avenging that loss with a come-from-behind win less than 48 hours later against the Gold Coast Blaze in Brisvegas.

The Townsville game is one to forget as the Snakes were belted by a staggering 28 points, 95-67. So let's move onto Game 2 of the road trip where at one stage it looked like a repeat dose, until Andrew (Drewy) Warren set the Blaze's stadium on fire with his long range bombs.

With 4min19sec left on the clock in Quarter 4 the Taipans were down by 8 pionts after the Blaze went on an 8 zip run.

Then up steps Drewy unloading 3, 3 pointers in just a tick over 2 minutes, helping to turn the 8 point deficit into a 9 point winning margin as the snakes finished the game with a 17 to nil run.

Well done boys.

You might be forgiven for thinking that with his 16 points and 7 rebounds against Townsville on Friday, and a game high of 28 points and 4 rebounds on Sunday (shooting at a combined average of 53% from outside at a tick under 50% overall) that Drewy would be a shoe in for Player Of The Round (POTR) for the NBL's second round.

But NO, it was not to be as it was GIVEN to Perth's Shawn Redage for his 21 pionts and 7 rebounds vs the 36ers. ”What The!”

While on the wisdom of the NBL and also One HD, let's look at the scheduled times of broadcasting games.

At the end of last season the NBL was proud to announce that One HD would be screening more than double the amount of games than the previous year, and weren’t we all happy with that result.

Until now we find that the games are being broadcast at times unsuitable for the kids to watch, 10.30pm. “What The!”

Instead of showing great Aussie sport, One HD puts on American drivel like World's Toughest Fixes, and Fear Factor. Come on NBL, get real and get onto the broadcasters in relation to these times because as Stevie Wonder once sang “the children are our future.”

See what happens when I have coffee in the afternoon.

The NBA lock out has no resolution in sight, they have cancelled over 100 games so far this season. Back in the season of 98-99 the lockout lasted from July 1, 1998 until January 20, 1999 with a loss of 31% of games in the regular season.

Hopefully sanity will prevail here.

Double Oh's predictions

Round 3 games will see 36ers at home to keep Sydney winless.
The Gong will beat the Blaze at the Sand Pit.
Melbourne will put an end to the Breakers' unbeaten run.
Perth will belt Clownsville.
Sydney may sneak a win at home vs the Gong on Sunday.

The next game for the Taipans will be at home on Friday 28 October with tip off at 7.30pm. See you there.

Catch you on the rebound.

Double Oh.
