Thriller for Under 12 Muddies
Under 12 Douglas Muddies, captained by Raine Sorensen, played an exciting match against Mareeba Allstars at Mossman High School on Saturday morning.
The opposition won the toss and sent Muddies in to bat first.
Levi Trewick and Nathan Deuble opened the batting with Levi retiring on 3 and Nathan bowled out at 4. Bryce Fabiani batted steadily until he was caught out on 2.
Luke Twomey increased the run rate and was excited to make his first 4 of the season and retired on 9. Keel Sorensen also retired on 17 and Daniel Davidson on 16.
Raine Sorensen was unlucky to be run out without a run. Tully Cartwright was the greatest run maker of the match on 38 not out. Reuben Allison retired on 1 and Ryan Doble on 3.
The Junior Muddies finished their 27 overs at 4/127.
Mareeba went in to bat and Daniel Davidson took the first wicket by bowling the opposition’s batter on only his second ball. Daniel bowled 4 overs and finished on 1/8. Tully Cartwright also took a wicket finishing on 1/8 off 3 overs.
The run result between both teams was neck and neck and at the 26th over, and with only one over remaining Mareeba needed 6 runs to win.
The last over turned into a frenzy for not only the players, but also the umpires and scorers as some crazy running and quick bowling and throwing resulted in Keel Sorensen taking a wicket and a run out in the last over.
Keel achieved 2/13 off 4 overs with his wickets assisted by catches from Daniel and Reuben.
Mareeba just pipped the Muddies at the post to win the match by a mere 3 runs on 5/130.
