The Bradburys take Muddies trivia crown

by Roy Weavers

About 80 supporters of the mighty Douglas 'Muddies' Cricket Club plus children turned out at the Port Douglas Yacht Club for the annual fundraising Triva Quiz Nite.

Kevin 'K-Star' Eldridge was the quiz master for the evening and pushed the intellectual abilities of the attendant teams from quick singles to the confusing and often unknown cerebral parts of the deep outfield.

The question categories tested everyone on sport (especially cricket), music, entertainment, general knowledge and people and places.

It couldn't have ended any closer with four teams on equal points in third position just two points behind four teams on equal points in second position with the winning team just one point in front of them.

The winners team name summed the evening up really, they came sweeping in from behind the pack after their late double points joker round to do justice to their team names hero, Steve Bradbury, who you may remember was the last man standing to take an unlikely gold medal in the Olympic speed skating.

Having partaken of far too much of the hospitality that the Yacht Club so amply provided it was a surprise to everyone on the team that there was anyone left standing to take the honours and share the spoils of success!

During the quiz there were raffles and auctions with a fantastic array of prizes donated from within the local business community.

Co-organiser and vice President of the Muddies, Steve Doble said "Kev from K-star did a great job", although he was sure there was an underarm error relating to the Chappell Brothers.

The auction items included a Kookaburra bat signed by Mike 'Mr Cricket' Hussey that went for $410 and a Queensland Bulls Masters bat signed by everyone who played at Port Douglas earlier in the year for over $320 also.

Steve praised everyone involved in the event which resulted in a windfall of funds to help the club operate.

"A big thank you to all who attended and an even bigger thanks to those who donated. We roughly doubled last year's funds raised, estimated at around $2,000 this year.

"These funds are so important to help us run the club. Well done to everyone who helped organise the evening, it's always great fun!"
