Sharks future up to you

After a tumultuous year that almost saw the club fold, the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks will hold their AGM this Friday night at the club house.

President of the club, Keith Pitt, said there are a variety of positions to be filled in order to help rebuild the club in 2012 including executive board roles, Functions Co-ordinator, Fundraising and Sponsorship Officer, Equipment Controller, Bar Manager and Canteen Convenor.

Nominations for two delegates to represent the Sharkettes on the committee are also required.

In an impassioned plea, he urged the community to get involved to secure the future of the club which was established over 70 years ago.

"We have managed to secure one sponsor for next (season) and still need many more. The club needs the support of the community and local businesses to survive.

"If Mossman loses this sporting club now, there will be no going back. Babinda Colts folded a number of years ago and are regretting the decision.

"What are our children going to do when they finish at Under 16s?  Do parents want to drive their children to other towns for footy?  We have to keep this sport alive.  It is one of the district's oldest sports if not the oldest," he said.

Everyone is welcome to attend the AGM which commences at 6.30pm, however, only paid members can vote. Sponsors and White Pointers Club members are also invited to vote and/or nominate on the evening.
