After eight years of calling the Meridien Marina home, Radio Port Douglas has entered a new era in its broadcasting.

Staff of the popular radio station have packed up their mountains of equipment, taken down their reams of posters, and moved to the heart of town where they've set up shop at the Reef Anchor House 
complex on Macrossan Street.

Owner of Radio Port Douglas and morning show host, Michael Gabour, said while they will miss the character of the old studio, the new location delivers on quality.

"We turned it (the marina studio) into a really fun, funky radio station and studio. But the building had a lot of problems with it. The acoustics in the studio certainly weren't the best in the world.

"We were prepared to continue to deal with the little problems in order to stay there because we liked the feel of the place. But the marina management had decided that in the process of redevelopment they were going to need that space.

"We found this place (the new studio) and it was excellent...so we said it's time to make a move, eight years is a long time in one place.

"We're very, very pleased with our new premises. The acoustics in our new studio are really sensational. It's got a big, fat, warm sound to it."

The core Radio Port Douglas team remains with Dale Priem, Kim Hurley, Nick Swainson, and of course Michael, as do his almost 30 strong group of presenters including Super Sal and Wevs with their 
Drive Time Theme Park (there's your gratuitous plug Roy).

Michael hopes to call their new digs home for many years to come, with a three-year lease being signed.

"We hope to be here indefinitely. One of our major motivations was to relocate ourselves into the heart of the action which is right here on Macrossan Street.

"It feels very spacious compared to where we were...and the roof doesn't leak."
