Meet the young stars of gymnastics
The Mossman and Districts Gymnastics Club have racked up a fantastic year of achievements in 2011, not least of all the continued development of their young gymnasts.
Today we have a chat with two of these up-and-coming stars, Della Miller and Shayla Frizelle.
DELLA MILLER
Erin Frizelle: How long have you been doing gymnastics?
Della Miller: Three years.
EF: Do you participate in any other sports?
DM: Ballet.
EF: What is your favourite piece of apparatus?
DM: Floor.
EF: What was your best competition moment?
DM: Going to Townsville. It was my first time there.
EF: How do you stop yourself from feeling nervous at comps?
DM: Breathe in and breathe out.
EF: What’s your secret that gives you the edge?
DM: Practice.
EF: Would you like to be a junior gym coach one day? Why/Why not?
DM: Yes, because you get to teach people.
EF: What advice would you give to other aspiring gymnasts?
DM: Try your best.

SHAYLA FRIZELLE

Shayla Frizelle: Three years.
EF: How many hours gym practice do you do each week?
SF: Six hours.
EF: Do you participate in any other sports?
SF: Tennis on Fridays and sometimes swimming at the creek.
EF: How does doing gymnastics make you feel?
SF: Tired, but good.
EF: What is your favourite piece of apparatus?
SF: Bars.
EF: How do you stop yourself from feeling nervous at comps?
SF: Think about something else
EF: Would you like to be a junior gym coach one day? Why/Why not?
SF: Yes, because you get to tell kids what to do and make them do push-ups if they don’t behave.
EF: What’s your secret that gives you the edge?
SF: Practice hard!
