Anglers from around the world will be hoping the showers stay away for the start of tomorrow’s second annual Port Douglas Black Marlin Challenge.

After a briefing and cocktail party at 6.30pm tonight (Wednesday), entrants from around Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bali and the USA will be gearing up for two days of fishing for the elusive giant black marlin.

Tournament director, Terry Murphy, said this year, enquiries into the race were also fielded from as far as Europe, Russia, Mexico and Brazil.

“I'm ecstatic at the interest,” Mr Murphy said. “This interest really bodes well for the event in the coming years.”

Locals are invited to witness tomorrow morning’s shotgun start and sail past from the Rex Smeal headland at around 7.45am, before the boats head out to North Coast Waters.

And with this year’s event expected to be bigger than last year’s challenge, it is sure to be a spectacular sight.

Then on Saturday, entrants will take part in a social golf day at Sea Temple Golf Club from 8.20am, followed by two more days of fishing.

Presentations will be made to the winners of the event on Monday 7th November at Lure Restaurant from 7pm.
