KIND big winner from Fundy 5000

Kids In Need of Donation (KIND), a local charity providing support for families with seriously ill children, have received a big boost thanks to the participants in the Great Barrier Reef Festival's 'Fundy 5000'.

Over $1000 was raised through entry fees into the event.

Evie Shaw, whose family knows first hand the importance of the support KIND offers, started the event on Port Douglas Esplanade.

The Festival was organised by Port Douglas Event Management, and managing director Sam Cullen said the Fundy was all about participation.

"The Festival attracted some amazing athletes, particularly in the ultra and half marathons, but the Fundy was all about getting people of all ages and abilities to show their support for KIND."

KIND's Jenny White was grateful to those who participated in the event which saw around 50 people take to the five lap circuit.

"Thanks for the support (of participants) and to Joni from Port Douglas Event Management for nominating KIND to be the beneficiary. It's great Evie was able to be involved in some way.

"This was a community based event which everyone could get involved in. It's good for the town as well as KIND."

Ms White said funds raised will help to continue their work with local families.
