Gymnasts jump for joy over funding
The Mossman & District Gymnastics Club celebrated some welcome news recently after applying for a grant through the Brothers Community Sports Development Program in September.
They were thrilled to be chosen, along with 60 other community groups, schools and sporting clubs, to receive $1000 worth of sporting equipment.
Over 200 applications were submitted to Brothers, with the winning recipients ranging from as far north as Laura and Cardwell in the South.
The club’s grants officer, Erin Frizelle, was excited about this latest win.
“It has been a very successful couple of years in terms of grant funding. The club has received a total of four grants over that time, which has really enabled us to revamp our facilities and bring it up to a high standard in terms of quality equipment and apparatus,” she said.
“The hard work has paid off and we are now fully equipped and up to date. The Brothers grant will enable us to purchase 10 padded mats in order to improve safety and versatility in our classes, with the mats also being easily transportable for displays.”
Now, as the gym facility at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre is filled to capacity, the club is now setting its sights on the long term goal of expanding their services by obtaining a new facility of their own, as they have now outgrown their current premises. The club is presently in discussions with Council for a suitable site.
Gymnasts are now busy preparing for their annual end of year Christmas display which promises to be an entertaining evening, showcasing the many skills that the students have been practicing all year.
The display will take place at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre, on Friday, November 25 at 5pm. Free entrance to this event will be open to all members of the public, followed by refreshments for a small fee.
New enrolments are always welcome. Please call the club on 0417 702 534, e-mail info@mossmangymnastics.com or visit the website.
