Douglas United scores with grant
The Douglas United Football Club has received a $500 grant from the proceeds of the Queensland Government's 'Positive or it's Pointless' equipment program.
The Program is designed to facilitate a change of culture within team sports to eliminate poor and unacceptable player and spectator behaviour.
Mr O'Brien congratulated the Douglas Football Club on their win, saying that the aim of the program is to create positive sporting experiences.
"Increased enjoyment of the game will work to increase participation in the sport, both at the player and spectator level", he said.
"And it should also help increase the numbers of volunteers involved. All in all it will mean a healthier and vibrant club and sport".
Douglas United's Rodney Rasmussen said the grant will help attract new players to the club.
"The more equipment we have the better we can provide for the players that come. The more contact they can have," he said.
He said the $500 will be spent on new portable goals for the club's 'small sided football,' a variation of the game that allows young players to get more involved in the match.
