Winning weekend for U9 Dragons
By Jason Carr
The Eurotech Under 9 Dragons played their hardest game of the season against the Edge Hill tigers in Cairns on Saturday. The Dragons started strong with Brennan Jones finding the back of the net in the first five minutes to make it 1-0.
Then the Tigers fought back to put the Dragons under pressure but some more good work by Brennan Jones saw him put Bailey Morrison through who finished his chance well to make it 2-0 at half time.
The Tigers came out flying in the second half and started to control the game and they soon made it 2-2. They could have gone in front but for some great goalkeeping by man of the match Nicholas Rayner.
The Dragons picked up the pace again and a great piece of skill from Jack Jenkins saw him chip the keeper from the halfway line to make it 3-2.
With just minutes to go Jack Carr beat three players down the left wing, passed the ball inside to Jack Jenkins who smashed it into the bottom corner to make it 4-2 and gave the Dragons their most satisfying victory yet.
The boys then backed up on Sunday at the Mareeba Carnival winning their first three games but just losing the fourth game 2-1 in a nail biting finish against TAS – goal scorers of the day were Bailey Morrison 1, Lachlan Weyand 1, Jack Jenkins 3, Brennan Jones 2, Charlie Dowling 3 and Jack Carr 8.
