Theatresports at Port Douglas Carnivale

On behalf of The Tropical North Theatre Company and The Clink Theatre, the organisers would like to let the Newsport readers know what is happening with the Carnivale event of Theatresports.

As you probably know Theatresports is the hilarious game of improvisation and wit, where performers are part of a team of 4 people playing a variety of improvisation games using a live audience’s suggestions.

There are three judges in place for the night, who are all looking forward to the event.  The judges are Jack Heywood, (Local play writer and director), Claire Tierney, (The Clink President) and Richard Muranty, (Local teacher and former theatre professional). Judges will score teams out of 5 points for each game played.

They will be judging the performers on spontaneity, ability to create story, comic timing and entertainment value. At the end of the night there will be prizes for the winning teams, best on stage, funniest one liner and best audience suggestion.

So far there are around 20 performers scared scriptless but eager to perform. They are a mix of The Tropical North Theatre Company actors and daring locals. We still have room for more people, so if there are any brave locals out there who think they have the spontaneity and wit to get on stage and improvise, then they should call Laura on 0408 399 909.

The Theatresports competition will be held on Saturday the 28th of May, starting at 7:30pm.  The bar opens at 6:30pm and we encourage the community to rally behind our brave performers and come and make a night of it.

Tickets can be bought prior to the show at Origin Café in Port Douglas, at Goodies in Mossman or on the night. Ticket costs are $15 or $12 concession.

Everyone is invited to come on the night and take photos of the performers and patrons.
