Shaw bros, big Fish and new talent for Crocs
By Kerry Larsen
The Port Douglas Crocs tilt at the 2011 Cairns AFL premiership will be strengthened in the coming weeks with the signing of a former NT Thunder player and the return of three club favourites.
David Kruse, who has played the 2010 season in the QAFL and the current season in the new NEAFL both - with the NT Thunder - will line up for the Crocs tomorrow against South Cairns at Fretwell Park.
The 19-year-old tall defender is capable of pushing into the midfield and looks set to add to the excitement of the Crocs indigenous talent. He has been influence for the Thunder this season so far, including playing a part in a massive 119-point demolition of the Morningside Panthers earlier this month, which saw the Thunder solidify top spot on the NEAFL northern conference ladder.
Kruse also played five games with the U18 team at the National Championships for NT Thunder in 2010 with an impressive performance which led to an invitation to the 2010 AFL National Draft Camp.
Further height looks set to be added to the Crocs line-up in the coming weeks with three-time club best and fairest Matt Shaw, his brother and ex-WAFL follower Craig Shaw, and 2010 grand final full-back, Daniel Fisher, taking to the track this week at the Crocpit.
Matt kicked 100 goals last season for the Crocs and was a formidable presence at full-forward.
Ex-Perth Football Club runner-up best and fairest, Craig, will return from an Achilles tendon injury which saw him miss last year's CAFL grand final and is expected to return to rucking duties.
Fisher's return to full-back will also be a welcome gift for the Crocs, the solid defender capable of beating the best full-forwards in the league.
