Podium finishes in netball carnival

by Treveen Page

The Douglas Netball Association took 11 teams to Cairns last weekend to participate in the Fowler’s Group Regional Club Carnival.  The event is run over two days with divisions ranging from Adult to years 11 and Under with 55 teams competing over the weekend from the Far North.

The Douglas Young Guns played in Divison 3, Breakers and Jets in Division 5 (16/U), Dynamites and Vipers Division 7 (13/12/U), Miallo, Mosman Magic, Crocs and Douglas Allstars in Division 8 (12/U) and the Diamonds in Division 9 (11/U).

At the end of the carnival many of the Douglas Netball teams finished with podium places. The Young Guns came in third while the Jets played well to score runner up.

The undermanned Breakers had a few close games but didn’t manage a win, however the Vipers tied in second place but ended third as the highest goal average between tied teams is declared the winner.

Miallo and Allstars tied in third place while the Crocs and Magic won 2, drew 1 and lost 3. In a fantastic achievement the 11/Under Diamonds had their first ever winning game in a carnival event - Well done girls!!!

Thanks to all the parents who brought their children and team mates down for the weekend. The carnival provides invaluable experience to players and it is great to see the Douglas netball teams improving every year.
