Netballers defy weather to finish the round

By Gemma Gwilliams

This weeks games nearly didn't get played on Tuesday 17 May due to unseasonal torrential rains but all the players agreed to defy the elements and get the games played for this round as follows....

Rattle N'Hum def Sugarland Shooters        29-21

The Sugarland Shooters came out on Tuesday night and played one of their best games of the season. The game was full of excellent defence from both sides however the Rattle shooters didn't leave anything to chance ensuring an a win by 8 goals at the end of the game. Best and fairest was awarded to Adriana Van Boxtel for her outstanding performance in goal defence.

Blood Orange def Crocs        19-12

Again another tight came between two teams of an equal level the Crocs and Blood Orange both played great games. Crocs were very strong in the centre third and Blood Orange held their ground in the goal third. Sami Smith was awarded the best and fairest player award for her great shooting in goal attack.

Jets def U-14 Rep Team        15-7

The U-14 Rep team suffered their first loss this week against another young team in the competition, the Jets. The young girls played well but found it difficult to keep up with the fast Jets. Best and fairest player was awarded to Jade Harold.

Cougars def Pink Panthers        45-15

Cougars played a very great attacking game while the Panthers also held a very strong defensive line. The game was full of opportunities due to dropped balls and strong intercepts and Cougars took every chance they had to convert the opportunities into goals. Cougars player Sandra Burcombe played a great game in wing attack and for that she was awarded the best and fairest player award.

Young Guns def Jullaten Jewels    28-24

The Guns and Jewels are both very fast, fit and skilful teams so this week was a very physical and tight game as we had expected. By the end of the first quarter the Jewels were up by one goal but by the third they were down 19-16. In the forth the Jewels tried to fight back but the Guns were not prepared to lose the match and fought harder. Best and fairest was awarded to Young Guns player, Cheno Ryan for her great defence in goal keeper.

Breakers def Bad Habitats

Unfortunately Bad Habitats were unable to get their team to the courts this weeks and therefore lost their game due to forfeit.
