High petrol prices - who cares?

  • $200,000 electric roadster visits Port
  • Watch the video of the Telsa Roadster in Port Douglas

If you didn't see the bright red Tesla Electric Roadster cruising through the streets of Port Douglas on Saturday then it would have glided past unnoticed.

Unlike most sports cars, the Telsa Roadster is virtually silent - and proud of it.

As part of their 'Oz Goes Electric Tour' the Tesla Roadster – the world’s only electric sports car - is travelling along Australia’s eastern coast to showcase just what is capable from an electricity powered vehicle. And trust me, it's more than you can imagine.

The $200,000 Roadster will journey an unprecedented 3,000 kilometers, and has travelled up to 394km on a single charge (using your everyday power point).

The handmade, carbon fiber Roadster delivers supercar performance with zero tailpipe emissions. Powered by the most energy-dense battery in the industry, the Roadster accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in less than 4 seconds and consumes no petroleum.

“This road trip is a milestone. It’s the first time an electric vehicle has traveled a significant distance in Australia, charging along the way,” said Jay McCormack,  Australian National Sales Manager for Tesla.

“Many Australians will be seeing an EV for the first time, and we want them to see with their own eyes that electric cars can perform just as well as conventional cars without the emissions.”

Requiring less routine maintenance than conventional cars, the Roadster requires no oil changes or smog checks, and has no spark plugs or pistons to replace.

The Tesla Roadster is available for purchase in Australia today with seven having already been purchased this year.
