Crocs wallop Power

by Jo Westgate

The Port Douglas Crocs Under 16s played a fantastic match on Friday night recording their first win of the season and easily disposing of a previously undefeated Pyramid Power by 45 points.

The first quarter was a torrid encounter, with both teams defending well and allowing very few shots for goal. Port went into the first break with a 13 point buffer keeping the Power scoreless.

The second quarter was much of the same, with Port Power once again unable to put a score on the board due to the Crocs tough, ruthless and impenetrable backline sending the ball back to the centre time and time again.

The third quarter was a much closer encounter with both sides scoring 2.4 but Power were on the back foot going into the last quarter chasing a 35 point deficit.

The last quarter had the Port Douglas crowd on their feet with the sweet scent of victory in the air the Crocs booted 3.4 to Powers 2 majors leaving the previously top team in their wake.

Well done to the boys in what was a great team effort from the forward to the centre to the backline. The Port Douglas under 16s have always had the numbers and the skills to be contenders this season but Friday night was the first time they put all together as a team.

Final score: Port Douglas 10-13-73 def Pyramid Power 4-4-28

Goal kickers were Oscar Harvey 5, Micheal Mckeown 3, Jake Muia and Alex Forbes 1 goal a piece.

Best Players were hard to pick this week with awards going to Keegan O’Neil and Jordan O'Gorman for their outstanding performances in the backline and to Oscar Harvey for his stellar performances kicking 5 goals (such a shame you barrack for Collingwood though).

Hopefully the boys can back up this week when they come up against North Cairns on Friday night at Cazaly’s.
