Carnivale Family Beach Day Grand Finale

Cairns Regional Council will be giving away free plants as Port Douglas residents and visitors enjoy the new-look esplanade this weekend.

As part of the final weekend of the Port Douglas Carnivale, Family Beach Day is set to attract crowds of people keen to soak up the sun, sand, sports and activities and markets on the seaside.

“This year, the esplanade has received a facelift and is looking fantastic,” Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the area full of people and activities this Saturday.  This has been an absolutely awesome Carnivale and we still have one more big weekend of events to go.”

Among the many activities on offer at Beach Day are treasure hunts, sandcastle-building, beach cricket, outrigger canoe racing, sea-kayaking, bouncing castles, waterslides, face painting and more.

Council’s stall will offer free native trees for residents, along with children’s frisbees and information brochures on a range of topics.

“If you don’t want to take a tree with you at the time, you can take a voucher to pick up a tree from our nursery,” Cr Leu said.

Council staff will man the stall and will be available to chat with residents about any issues they would like to raise.

Family Beach Day takes place at Four Mile Beach this Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
