5 senses tempted and tantalised

By Roy Weavers

Last night at the Sugar Wharf saw a new exciting style of event for Carnivale 2011 combining both exhibition with live show to produce, as advertised, 'A night of pure indulgence'.

An audience of over 100 enjoyed a range of products and services to splendidly indulge and excite ALL five of their senses.

The fun began as the crowds walked through the door where they were invited to taste the new Riesling and Shiraz grape varieties from the Port Douglas Heritage Wine Series especially selected from the world famous Clare Valley, SA by Honey Estates.  These exceptional wines illustrate just what can be achieved by the combination of two of the worlds finest destinations.

Finnish born, now long term local, Nanna Soderstrom exhibited her photographic works of art. The magical masterpieces selected for this evening present a beautiful yet challenging view of our natural world.

Tablelands favourites, Rainforest Bounty showcased their quality gourmet condiments including lemon and lime pickle, tingleberry conserve and their native tamarind and green mango chutney which everyone who tasted them agreed were the perfect complement to all styles of cooking. They were also showcasing their exceptional slow food experience cooking classes.

Port Douglas Catering passed around their sensational canapes on arrival, so by the time everyones fashion senses were excited along the catwalk, the whole audience was nicely warmed up to appreciate the innovative fashions and styles on display from local outlets Attitudes, No.5, Tshinta, Funk 'em, Moonshine and Portfolio Collections.

The Fashion Parade produced a plethora of worthy winners for their style and accessories including Louise Wall who won 'Best Shoes' from Attitudes, Mel Jones won Best handbag for her organic clutch and  Allie Purcell winning best overall outfit, Karen Tesch won best dressed and Tshinta winning best ensemble.

Organizer Claire Tierney said "I'm thrilled with the way, this, our first show went.  All five senses were given a thorough workout and the crowd all seemed to be smiling".

Darry Honey from Port Douglas Heritage Wines said, "Congratulations should go to Clair and her team for pushing the barriers with this style of show.  It is these types of innovation and presentation that keeps the Carnivale moving forward".
