Port delivers six of the best

Six of Port Douglas' fittest athletes competed in the Pete’s Bridge Duathlon recently, and all six featured strongly in the placings.

Held at Goldsborough, south of Cairns, the Pete's Bridge event posed a challenge for race entrants.

"It was a very tough, hilly, physically draining course that tested our physical and mental strength on a sunny and hot day," said Nick Carling of ActIn Fitness who used the event as preparation for Challenge Cairns in June.

The Port Douglas contingent performed remarkably over the two distance courses with all six coming home with a win or a place. Results were:

Short Course: 1km run, 10km ride, 2km run

Lizzie Murrell - 1st overall in 41 minutes
Jess Mison - 2nd overall in 43 minutes

Long Course: 2km run, 20km ride, 4km run

Nick Carling - 1st in age group, 2nd overall in 1hr 7mins (18 seconds behind Kel Marino who only recently competed in Busselton Ironman)
Lucy Forbes - 1st female overall in 1hr 22mins
Chelsea Walk - 2nd in age group in 1hr 37mins
Kate Houlahan - 3rd in age group in 1hr:43mins
