Muddies have fun in the wet

With the rain spitting down Port Douglas and United Cricket clubs B Grade sides took to the field in what was always going to be a stop start day on Sunday.

Port Douglas captain Nathan King won the toss and elected to bat on a nice wicket but wet outfield at Griffiths Park No. 1.  King and Sam Evans opened the innings and were increasing the scoring fluently even with the lack of value for shots due to the wet grass until a well timed square cut straight to gully saw Evans finish a good start on 13 runs.

Simeon Migliorenza strode to the crease and took a couple of balls to adjust to the conditions which then brought about three consecutive cover drives for 2 runs a piece. With both batsmen turning the strike over and picking 1's and 2's with the odd 4 thrown in, the scoring moved along in an easy fashion until King received a decent ball on the stumps by Kahn and was bowled for a well guided 33.

With rain intervals coming and going it was hard for any batsmen to get into a rhythm and after the second rain stoppage Migliorenza played and missed and was bowled by Tattersall for 26. Fishing trip surviver Daniel Harris joined Haigh Varcoe for a quick fire 30 run partnership before Varcoe was stumped for 12 runs by Arshad.

The rain then decided that was enough cricket for the day and at 4:30pm the day was abandoned.  Over night Port Douglas is 4 for 109 off 40 overs with Harris on 21no and Ben Vikionkorpi on 1 no.

The Port Douglas C Grade team's were due to play at home this week but the weather caused this week to be cancelled but next Sunday will see them take on Atherton in a 35 over a side game at the Port Douglas Sports Ground.
