60% of tourism and hospitality employees are worried about their career prospects, a new survey has revealed.

The results of the survey which were part of the 2010 TMS Asia-Pacific travel and hospitality salary report, showed that around one in seven employees  received pay increases of more than 6% during the 12 month period.

The survey also showed that tourism and hospitality employees see career progression as becoming a greater focus for them with 61% saying it was either 'important' or 'very important', however an equal number said there was little or no hope in their current job.

“What this does say is that the majority of employees in a post- GFC climate seem to feel that they need to move companies in order to benefit from career progression seemingly unavailable with their current employers,” TMS chief executive, Andrew Chan told Travel Today.

Three out of four respondents said that salary was a very important factor when accepting their last role.
