Golf event a relaxing break

A golf morning for men who have suffered the loss of a child is being held on Sunday 20 March at the Half Moon Bay (Yorkey's Knob) golf course as part of SANDS support group activities.

SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal death) is a support group for anyone who has been touched by pregnancy or infant loss, regardless of the cause, but the golf morning is aimed squarely at the guys.

Organiser Craig Healey, who lost a daughter at seven weeks of age, says the event presents an opportunity to those who have suffered a similar loss to put aside the anguish for a few hours.

"You don't have to talk about anything. You can just go there, be in the same environment as another bunch of fathers who have all been through a rough time," Mr Healey said.

"You can just relax and get away from it all for a day. It's just a break away for your mind. That's what I remember down in Victoria they did for me."

Mr Healey said it's not only fathers who are welcome. "Dads, grandads, uncles, brothers or friends are all invited to attend the SANDS men’s golf morning," he said.

The event will take in a leisurely nine-hole game of golf and a drink and a chat afterward. Tee off is at 9.30 and the cost is $20. To meet course dress standards a collared shirt and dress shorts are required.

Those interested should RSVP by 10 March to Craig Healey on 4098 3089 (AH), or by email craigmitchell5@yahoo.com.au.
