The draft community plan established by Cairns Regional Council named 'Imagine Tomorrow – Your Community Plan 2011 – 2031' was endorsed by Council at a recent Finance and Administration Committee meeting.

The draft plan will be the key document in extensive community consultation from today at an open community forum at Council’s Administration Building in Cairns.
 
Further consultation will take place across the region over the next six weeks.
 
Mayor Val Schier said the forum would provide an opportunity for the community to discuss the draft in detail with Councillors and staff.
 
“Over the past eight months, Councillors and staff have been talking to the community to gather feedback on the community’s vision for the region’s future and what special characteristics we need to preserve or develop,” Cr Schier said.
 
“All these comments have formed this draft document Imagine Tomorrow Your Community Plan 2011 – 2031 and the community can see how they have helped shape the visions for tomorrow on issues ranging from safety and security to education and economic development.
 
“Now we need to know if we are on track. Let us know what you think of the draft and if there is more to add.
 
“The community has told us what makes this region special. They want the essence to remain the same in 20 years time whilst recognising that we will continue to grow and flourish. This Community Plan is one way to ensure the most loved features are part of the region’s future direction and are present in every decision," she said.
