Captain Cook roadworks start Thursday

If you're planning to travel to or from Cairns be advised, the Department of Transport and Main Roads is starting embankment stabilisation works on a section of Captain Cook Highway approximately one kilometre north of Buchan Point this week.

The work will start on Thursday 3 March with completion expected in late March. Workers will be operating between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Speed limit reductions, single lane closures and traffic controllers will be in place for the duration of the works, however traffic will be restored to two lanes outside work hours.

Cairn Regional Council said motorists are advised to expect delays and factor this into any travel plans.

"Crews are mindful of peak traffic periods and will endeavour to maintain traffic flow at these times," Far North Regional Director Tony Potter said in a statement.

"Please remember that safety around roadworks is a two-way street, so slow down and drive carefully. Your patience around roadworks is appreciated."
