All your Junior Crocs action!

by Jo Westgate

This Sunday is our first home game for 2011 and with a new draw coming out and three venues being used each Sunday instead of two chances are we will get more than our four allocated home games for the season. I will keep you posted.

Seems the under 8s could show Cameron Mooney a thing or two about how to kick accurately in front of goal with the little tackers kicking an unbelievable 12 goals in their match.

This Sunday the under 14s will be competing against North Cairns for the Rick Brown Cup this cup is in memory of Rick (Brownie) Brown who was one of the founding members of The Port Douglas Crocs in 1988 and was there for there first game as part of the CAFL in 1989.

Brownie played with North Cairns before his move to Port Douglas which was there loss andour gain. He played many Senior and Reserves games for Port Douglas before becoming involved with the junior club when his two boys Jackson and Mitchell were old enough to play.

He was always a great volunteer on Sundays, coaching, umpiring and pretty much doing whatever he could to help out with the juniors. Brownie loved his 3Bs; he loved a BET, loved a BEER and loved his BOYS so it will be great to see Jackson and Mitchell present the cup in his honour on Sunday.

So now to last weekend's match reports.

CROCS IN A GOAL KICKING FRENZY

The Under 8s played a very strong game against Centrals bolstered by two new players making their debut. Great ball control and strong defence showed how much the team has progressed since round 1.

Centrals Blue were on the back foot for most of the game in what was a magnificent display the Crocs kicked 12 majors for the match which is more goals than what most teams kicked in the AFL over the weekend.

Every player had a great game and goals were shared around with seven players finding the big sticks. Goal Kickers were Scott Cooper 3, Jake Sherwell 3, Geneva Gilbert 2 and 1 goal each to Jesse Bourguignon, Harry Walker, Ethan Bakker.and Jai L’Estrange.

Player of the day medallion went to Jai L’Estrange for his great team play and accuracy in front of goal. Macca’s awards went to Ethan Bakker and Jake Sherwell. Cam Nyko was amongst the award winners again this week picking up the Foodworks Improvement Award. What a great game and keep up good work kids.

CROCS SHOW NO FEAR AGAINST THE SAINTS

The Under 10s came up against the Saints at Trinity Beach on Sunday in what was a great display of skill and teamwork from both sides.

Casey, Rory, Jacob and Anthony cleared the ball time and time again from the packs feeding it off to fast running team mates in Daniel, Reuben and Toby. who quickly moved the ball up forward.

Jack, Dylan and young Tyson’s efforts in manning up on their opponents forced several mistakes from the Saints resulting in easy goals to the Crocs. The Crocs were brilliant all over the ground with our forward, backs and centreline players showing skills beyond their years.

Once again goals were shared around with Ryan 3, Reuben 2 and 1 each to Daniel, Toby and Leon. Awards went to Daniel Davidson, Tyson Lynch and Rory Nyko.

CROCS HAVE CENTRALS IN THE DEATH ROLL

Under 12s Port Douglas 5-7-37 def Centrals Red 3-3-21

The Crocs got off to a great start with Brayden and Hugo dominating in the ruck giving the Crocs first use of the ball out of the centre. Jack and Daniel were rock solid in defence sending the ball back into our forward line time after time again.

Daniel Davidson played one of his best games ever and kicked what could be the goal of the year if he played for the Brisbane Lions. Charlie, Billy and Jye contributed well all day making the most of their opportunities as well as creating many for the Crocs. Tom was unstoppable at half back driving the ball forward on many occasions.

Awards this week went to Billy, Charlie, Jye and Daniel 'In Everything' Davidson. Would be great to see another win in front of the home crowd this Sunday at the Port Douglas Sports Complex. Keep up the great work
fella’s. Go Crocs

CROCS SHOW COURAGE UNDER FIRE

Under 14s Centrals 12-12-84 def Port Douglas 3-0-18

Scoreboard aside, a courageous Crocs line up saw the 14s put in another huge effort last Sunday against a strong Bulldogs squad. Although they got off to a slow start in the first quarter moments of brilliance later on in the match showed supporters just what they are made of.

Great communication and their  "I’ve got your back" attitude allowed them to get back into the match. Once again under the guidance of coaches Rod Davidson and Pat Barnett and against the odds due to lack of numbers the boys showed that they are getting stronger every week

Thanks once a gain to Tom Goodall, Ben Muia and Harry Brown for playing up allowing the 14s to field a competitive team. It is a big ask of these youngsters to play two games back to back in such hot conditions.

Goal Kickers were Quinlan Cannon, Mitchell Bohm and Jarrah Wren who kicked his first ever goal in AFL. Well done Jarrah and keep em coming!

Award winners were Quinlan Cannon, the Beach Shack Award with the Port Pantry Award going to Pocket Rocket Brady Stewart. Other award recipients were Mitchell Bohm, Thomas Radcliffe and Keegan Grogan

Thanks to Coaches and all those who assisted with match duties.
